You can see the guard in front of the consulate taking an interest. And no, I wouldn't want to place Jodie and Sascha in danger. Hence me taking a photo of the girls, not the flag or consulate. I was trying to be as discreet as I could, but there was some gesticulation and pointing by the armed guards, so we moved smoothly on.When we went back the next day, Jodie took my photo using the zoom so the girls were postioned a long way away and under strict instructions from me not to get involved if anything went off. Conveniently the UK Embassy is one block away on the opposite side of the road.
The United States embassy was situated in this compound in 1975. I understand that it was destroyed by the communists when the war ended. The plaque acknowledging it's existence is inside these walls.
The American flag flying over the United States Consulate. When we returned, the air was motionless and the flag hugged the pole very still. I was lucky to get some good photos of the flag. |
